Think back to the old school, reminisce on how things used to be. Ah yes, the good old days. That's the nostalgia that classic black and white evokes. The same can be said of black and white striped fabric. We'd like to take a moment to look back at the glamorous gown that the beautiful Janelle Monae wore to the 2017 Producer's Guild Awards. Known for wearing black and white, the singer turned actress stunned in a gorgeous black and white "striped mikado strapless gown" from the Carolina Herrera Spring 2017 collection. When we last checked, the gown was priced at $7,290. A lesser known fact, the dress was originally worn by Serena and Venus Williams in Vogue magazine. This according to an article from Vogue.

Memorial Day is quickly approaching. Are you ready for your celebration/get together/Barbeque? In remembrance of the veteran in your life, why not make a quick pendant using patriotic colors. To make the day even more special, try personalizing it by spelling out their names. Today we're sharing another YouTube find that demonstrates how to sew a pendant. It looks quick and easy to do, so try it out and show us your creation in the comments. We love seeing what you make! As we continue on our journey to open our online fashion boutique Sew Cris-Croche, we've been researching techniques to create clothing labels. We've heard of a technique using Freezer Paper and found a few videos demonstrating the technique. We'd like to share it with you this week. We tried the technique with wax paper instead and it didn't quite come out so well. Actually it didn't come out at all (cue laughter here). Perhaps you've had a better experience. If so, tell us about it and share your tips for success.
From back in the day, we remember the iconic London Fog trench coats. Used on rainy days, the fashionable coats offered protection from moisture while still maintaining great style. The modern trench coat now is a cross between a trench coat and a dress. Looking more like a dress while still having the functionality of a coat.
Today's video comes to you with those of us who don't own a serger in mind. If you don't have a serger but want to achieve those perfect, professional looking seams, check out this video. You'll learn to use a zigzag stitch to get similar results to that done with a serger, without having to pay a thing! We all love free don't we? If you've been sewing for others, you're probably pretty proficient in doing so. But have you ever tried measuring yourself? We have and it can be quite challenging. So today, we're sharing a YouTube find from Sure Fit Designs on how to measure yourself. We're sure you'll find it quite helpful. We loved some of the extra tips given, like the clever use of tape, a necklace, elastic, and a mirror. We tried it ourselves and it made the difficulties of reaching and reading the tape measure that much easier. Watch the video and tell us what you think in the comments. Do you have tips you'd like to share? We'd love to hear those too! As a side note, we recently emailed our May Newsletter to our loyal subscribers.
