During the course of preparing our 2016 Oscar Predictions,  we stumbled upon another most likely little known awards ceremony that recently took place.  The 2016 Costume Designers Guild Awards were held February 23rd, honoring those who design costumes for the movie and television industries.  If sewing is your thing (as it is ours), you'll definitely want to learn more about some of the people who won these awards.  So sit back and read along as we introduce you to some of the most sought after costume designers in Hollywood.

Excellence In Period Film

First, meet Paco Delgado, the man behind the costumes and outfits seen in The Danish Girl.  His work has earned him numerous awards, including Oscar nominations for The Danish Girl and Les Miserables.  Last night he won the award for Excellence In Period Film for The Danish Girl.  The Hollywood Reporter reports that his favorite outfit from the film is "a simple linen suit that Eddie Redmayne's character wears in the middle of transitioning from Einar Wegener to Lili Elbe."  These quotes are from The Hollywood Reporter February 19, 2016 issue.  If you have a chance, pick up the issue, there is also a great article on Costume Design Oscar winner Sandy Powell.

Excellence In Fantasy Film

Next up is Jenny Beavan, the woman behind the costumes in Mad Max: Fury Road.  She won the award for Excellence In Fantasy Film last night.  She won an Oscar for her work in the 1987 film A Room With A View, and has been nominated for several Oscar and Emmy awards.  Jenny started her career attending the Central School Of Art And Design, according to People magazine.  "Enjoy the challenge" is one of her tips for success and she describes the challenge of having to incorporate safety into the Mad Max costumes in the same Hollywood Reporter issue mentioned above.  "For ages, I'd wanted to do something futuristic or space age-y, so this was a terrific challenge."
