Cris-Croched:  The Circle Skirt

While surfing the web, we came across a wonderful YouTube video from Dana at Madeeveryday.com and instantly fell in love with her bubbly personality.  Upon further investigation, we found a lovely detailed tutorial on how to sew a circle skirt.  So we decided to give it a try and Cris-Croche it out .   The tutorial was very easy to follow and the pattern is easy enough for the beginning sewer to complete.  In fact it was such a quick work up that we made 4.  There are two versions of the skirt, a single layer and a double layer.  We made both versions. However, because of the busy print on the fabric we used,  it's hard to tell in the photos.

You'll definitely want to have this in your repertoire, since the circle skirt can be the foundation for many outfits, and other garments, including (drum roll please) ..... DRESSES!!!  Can you tell we're excited?

There were only a few issues we found as we were making the skirts.  The first being that the tutorial was not clear enough on how to attach the elastic.  We also had difficulty figuring out how to make the stitches around the waist straight.  If anyone has any suggestions, we'd love to hear them in the comments below.

We did not run into any issues that needed to be fixed when sewing the skirt.  Everything was fairly smooth.

Overall, this was a great tutorial.  The thing we liked most about it was the fact that there was a video tutorial AND a written tutorial.  Another thing we found helpful was the fact that a store bought pattern is not required.  Dana actually shows you how to make the pattern with paper, tape, ruler, pencil, and calculator.   So if you're on a tight budget, this tutorial is perfect for you, not to mention you end up with a cute skirt to finish!
