We're starting a new series of posts called Cris-Croched (pronounced kris-crawshd).  We'll share our finished projects that we've completed.  Many will be from patterns from fellow bloggers, others will be from creations we've made ourselves.  This week, we're sharing the Yenni Slouch Hat we made from a free pattern from Little Monkeys Crochet.

The pattern was very easy to follow.  If you're a beginner/intermediate to crochet, this pattern is suitable for you.   To help you decide if you'd like to take up the challenge of making this project, we'll tell you the issues/problems we came across, how we fixed it, give a short summary, and a rating.   With this in mind, we hope it helps you in creating it, or at least determining whether you want to make it.

The pattern creator, Rebecca, used a thinner yarn to create her hat.  Do you know the yarn weighting system?  Craftsy has a helpful article, as does the Craft Yarn Council.

We used a thicker yarn, which caused the hat to be way too big.  As a result, we had to figure out a work around.

So what was the work around you ask?  Here's the fixer upper we applied:  when it came to the point of "sewing the hat together," we measured it around the head.  Since it was too big, we overlapped  the ends instead of sewing the ends together.  Then we sewed the  underside.   This was a good fix, but made the hat a bit bulky in the overlapped area, which can be seen from the front view.

All in all, we loved this pattern.  It makes a nice stylish hat for the cooler months.  The issue we ran into by not using the thinner yarn did not take too much time to fix.  We were quite happy with the results.  Perhaps we'll try this project again with the thinner yarn to see how it turns out.  This pattern is one we'd definitely recommend.  f you haven't already, download the pattern and start stitching! Remember to share it with us in the comments or contact us.  The Yenni Slouch hat gets 4 out of 5 yarns up.
