Our 2017 Oscar Predictions:  And The Oscar Goes To...

The 2017 Oscars will air on ABC  Sunday February 26th.   We'll be watching with our prediction list in hand.   This year we're predicting who will win in the Costume Design category.

For the spy thriller Allied, costume designer Joanna Johnston drew inspiration from 1940's hollywood era.  This according to a Haarpars Bazar article.   The trailer for the movie is filled with lovely silk dresses worn by Marion Cotilliard, who plays Brad Pitt's wife in the movie.

The green dress seen in the dinner scene in the movie's trailer is made of silk satin, with silver beading and embroidery done in Pakistan.   If you read the article, you'll catch a video of Joanna giving details on some of the costumes.

Next up, Madeline Fontaine for Jackie.  Congratulations to her being nominated for the first time.  Unfortunately, we don't think Natalie Portman's suits will be enough to beat the competition.

La La Land on the other hand is filled with beautiful colorful dresses.  Costume designer Mary Zophres made/designed most of the dresses, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In the trailer for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, we noticed famed costume designer Colleen Atwood used lots and lots of coats.   Trench coats, top coats, pea coats, you name it.  So if most of the character's costumes consisted of coats, we don't think she'll be taking home the Oscar this time.

Which leaves room for fairly new newcomer Consolata Boyle.  With her second Oscar nomination, we think she'll take home the top prize.  The details on the suits and dresses worn by Meryl Streep were exquisite.  Not to mention that it's a period piece set in the 1940's which already  gives it a leg up on the competition.  From the head pieces to the jewelry, Consolata had Meryl dressed to the T.   In the trailer, Meryl's character is preparing for a concert at Carnegie Hall.  With the costuming provided by Consolata, we think she probably aced the show!
