The Big 8 Categories:  Our 2017 Golden Globe Predictions

1/7/2017

The Golden Globes will air on January 8th on NBC.  Will you be watching?  It's the time of year when everyone is predicting who will win.  We decided to get in on the excitement and present to you our predictions for the 7 major categories of the 2017 Golden Globes.  Surprisingly, there is a major designer on the list.  Congrats to Tom Ford for being nominated in the Best Director category.  You'll have to watch to see if he wins, and of course to see what he wears.
After watching all the trailers for the nominated films, we came up with our list of predictions.   So with no further delay...

Best Motion Picture - Drama

This was a tough category, and we couldn't pick just one so we narrowed it down to Lion and Manchester By The Sea.  Family bond is the common underlying theme. With Lion's four nominations and heavy hitters Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel it's a top contender.  The heart wrenching story of a young boy separated from his brother and his quest to find family looks like it takes audiences on an emotional journey worthy of an award.  Not to mention we like the dress she's wearing in this photo shared via the Golden Globes Instagram account.

Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, and Lucas Hedges star in Manchester By The Sea.  From the trailer, their performances  superbly tell the story of an uncle who becomes guardian of his nephew after his brother passes away.  With 5 nominations, it may have the edge over Lion but it will certainly be a close running.

Best Picture - Musical Or Comedy

No secret here.  If you follow our blog then you already know we favor La La Land.

Best Actor - Drama

"Some people build fences to keep people out, other people build fences to keep people in."  This quote taken from the trailer leads us to wonder which side of the fence Denzel Washington is on in this movie that tells a father/son story set in the 1950's.  Whichever side, looks like he gives a powerful performance of Golden Globe worthiness.

Best Actress - Drama

We think new comer Ruth Negga will shine from her performance as Mildred Jeter in Loving.  The movie is based on a true story of interracial marriage and race relations in the 1950's/60's.  Have to admit though, we may be a little biased due to overwhelming excitement at the quick shot of her buying sewing patterns in the trailer.

Best Actor - Musical Or Comedy

Out of all of the movie trailers in this category, Colin Farrel's performance was the only one that actually made us laugh.  So we're going with him  on this one.

Best Actress - Musical Or Comedy

With 30 Golden Globe nominations, to us there's no question that the fabulous Meryl Streep will walk away with this award for her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins.

Best Supporting Actor - Any Motion Picture

If Slumdog Millionaire is any pre-cursor, our hunches tell us that Dev Patel gave an emotional performance in Lion.  Good enough to take home the Golden Globe.  Hopefully Google Earth, as used in the film, will navigate him home after partying from his win.   We loved this trailer and we're sure the film itself will win multiple awards.

Best Supporting Actress - Any Motion Picture

We think Viola Davis will walk away with this award.   She's such a powerhouse actress and her ability to not just cry on command but to cry with such emoition always gives us the chills.  We're always left fighting back tears.  Which is what we'll probably be doing if she gives an emotional speech when she wins.

We're loving the color block on this Cinq a Sept dress she wore to the Fences movie premiere in New York.  She shared the photo above via Instagram.

Be sure to watch the awards tomorrow and check back to see how well we did on our predictions.  And of course we'll be discussing all of the Red Carpet fashion!
