This week's video of the week shows you how to knit a scarf. It's a great video we found on YouTube for beginners. What we like about it is that it takes you step by step through the process of casting on, knitting, and casting off. You will be able to make a scarf from start to finish. We are giving it a try and have started a scarf project with some yarn we had stashed away. Perhaps we'll share photos in a later post and in the mean time, hope you share your photos in the comments below. We'd love to see what you learn and make!

We're still gearing up for the 2017 Emmys, and covering all things Emmys. Most people are probably aware that they will air Sunday September 17th (5pm - 8pm) on CBS, hosted by Stephen Colbert. But we've got an extra tidbit for you. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards have already occurred and will air on Saturday September 16th at 8pm on FXX.
This week's Video Of The Week shows you how to make a dress form. If you're like us and you created one with duct tape, you're probably wishing you could make one that's a bit more professional. We were delighted to find this video tutorial that shows you how to do just that! All you have to do is buy the pattern and materials, then follow the tutorial. Seems pretty simple right?? We haven't tried it but if you do attempt to make one, let us know. We'd love to hear how it turns out. We're making a tools/supply list of sewing supplies that we need to make all of our sewing projects easier. We benefited from watching this YouTube video and learning about the different supplies that are useful for sewers. Top of our list? A Rotary Cutter. I don't know about you but cutting fabric is just so time consuming with scissors. The rotary cutter seems like it would make things go so much quicker. So on our next trip to Jo-Anns, we're hoping to purchase one. Which tools do you use that you find are essential to your sewing projects? We want to know. Shout it out in the comments and check back in next week . . . same time, same place for the next Video Of The Week.
As mentioned in our previous post, we'll be taking a closer look at the nominees in the costume design categories for the 2017 Emmy Awards. This year, there are a whopping 3 categories for costume design. Outstanding Period/Fantasy Costumes For A Series (Limited Series Or Movie), Outstanding Contemporary Costumes For A Series (Limited Series Or Movie), and Outstanding Costumes For Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Programming. We like that categorization because it breaks costume design into sub categories as opposed to lumping them all together. Besides, who would compare an Elizabethan gown from The Crown with the trendy/urban looks from Empire?
It's been a while since we posted and we hope we've been missed. We surely missed keeping up with the blog and hope to hear what you've been up to. Don't forget to let us know in the comments below. For this week's Video Of The Week, we found a great video with sewing hacks you probably never even thought of that also may save money. Not only is the video informative, but these YouTubers exude personality that will have you laughing while you learn. Nothing wrong with a little comedy to lighten the mood and take away some of the stress that can sometimes go along with sewing. How many times have you had to rip out all of your stitches and start over? Too many times for us to count that's for sure. So sit back, enjoy the video, and share any hacks you may know in the comment section below. Everyone could always use a little help. Summer break will be coming to an end soon so it's time to gear up for Back To School. Are you ready? We have a fun little free project for you to try. Today we're making a pencil case that we're sharing with you to give you a head start on getting you or your little ones ready for Back To School. "Wanna see it? Here it goes...."
We couldn't help but swoon over all the photos of Dancing With The Stars' Maksim Chmerkovskiy wedding. The Bride, Peta Murgatroyd's wedding dress was designed by Karen Sabag. We're loving the hand beaded bodice paired with the voluminous, light skirt.
If you read our blog consistently, you'll know we have an affinity for certain YouTube sewing stars. One being Coolirpa and her fabulous "Thrifted Transformations" show. If you haven't yet, check out her YouTube channel to see the incredible upcycling she does and you'll see what we mean. We recently found a new sewist who also has great YouTube tutorials. She gives you awesome step by step instructions to make cute clothes. The rhythmic African style music in the background helps you get in the groove while sewing. Here is just one to demonstrate but you should check out her channel to find more. If you're in the market to buy, check out Guess' 50% off sale, in effect at the time of posting. |
